Had a friend of mine ask about the process of getting a driver’s license and a motorcycle license in MD.  Here is the summary -

No driver’s license -

Birth certificate or passport and SSN card
Two Maryland residency documents (official mail with your name and MD address on it)
Pass vision test
Schedule and pass knowledge test
Pay $50
Get Learner’s Permit (Type I)

Learner’s Permit (Type I) -

Complete standardized driver’s ed course (http://www.mva.maryland.gov/DriverServ/RookieDriver/dschool.htm)
Complete 60 hours of driving time supervised by experienced driver, logged in MVA log book.  At least 10 hours must be at night
Hold Learner’s Permit (Type I) for nine months
Schedule and pass skills test
Pay $45
Get Provisional License

Provisional License -

Hold Provisional License for 18 months with no moving violation convictions
Get Full Driver’s License

Have Full Driver’s License already -

Full Driver’s License and SSN card
Two Maryland residency documents (official mail with your name and MD address on it)
Pass vision test
Schedule and pass motorcycle knowledge test
Pay $30
Get Motorcycle Learner’s Permit (Type II)

Full Driver’s License and Motorcycle Learner’s Permit (Type II) -

Hold the Motorcycle Learner’s Permit (Type II) for at least 14 days
Schedule and pass motorcycle skills test
Pay $45
Get Full Motorcycle License
